AIHS Board of Directors Handbook

Bob Bedoll, 10/26/2026

A. Introduction

  1. The Anderson Island Historical Society exists to preserve, protect, and share the rich history of Anderson Island. As a board member, you play a vital role in guiding this mission and ensuring that our organization remains strong, sustainable, and deeply connected to the community we serve.
  2. This handbook is designed to give every director—new or experienced—a clear understanding of how the Society operates, how decisions are made, and how each role contributes to our shared work. In a small, all volunteer organization, clarity and consistency are essential. This guide brings together our foundational documents, policies, responsibilities, and procedures so that board members can lead with confidence and purpose.
  3. Your service on the board helps safeguard the island’s heritage, support our volunteers, steward our collections and facilities, and strengthen the programs and events that bring history to life for our members and visitors. Thank you for lending your time, skills, and commitment to this important work. Together, we ensure that the stories of Anderson Island continue to be preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
